With the fuss being made lately about the advent of High Definition (HD) TV signals becoming universal, it’s hard to keep all of the information straight. What is high definition television and is it really all that much better than regular TV? Here are some answers.

First of all, the images that flash on HDTV are so vivid and realistic, it’s almost like being there in person. There truly is a visible difference between HD pictures and those that come from a regular TV: even those newer sets with enhanced definition cannot compare.

For many folks who are casual TV watchers, the advent yawner, theater, High Def just might be the ticket.

Although digital television has been around awhile, High Definition is digital in its highest form. Older televisions from decades ago only had 480 visible lines on the screen to reproduce the images that were being shown. Today’s HD has anywhere from 720 all the way up to 1080. The result? The television picture is at least twice as clear and defined as it used to be: hence the term High Definition. The bottom line is, the quality of the TV’s picture is amazing in comparison to what it used to be.

Only an HD television image, simple. format, won’t television can give. With an HD television set, the picture will be as clear and resolute as what you would normally see in a movie theater.

It’s important to know that just because you own a high definition set, it is not automatic that you will be seeing high definition pictures: such a service must be obtained separately.

You will need to obtain a set-top box for your set, and this usually comes when you sign up for a cable or satellite service. If you do not wish to pay a monthly fee for this service, you can still obtain the signal antenna: content, antenna, limited.
